"Joseph Bass was born into a mining family on the 27th October 1882. He lived in
Waleswood until he married local girl Millicent Meese, they then lived throughout
their married life on Wales Road, Kiveton Park.
Joseph attended Wales school as a boy and throughout his time there excelled in Art.
We know that he won a scholarship to study Art in Paris.
Unfortunately, his father Walter was killed in an accident at Kiveton Pit. Through duty
to his family he had to leave his dreams behind and become a miner. So, the man who
had his dreams at his fingertips! who loved light and colour spent his working days in
darkness.
This to us demonstrates the man who was Joseph Bass and why we are so proud to
be his Granddaughters".
