Extensive collection of photographs showing the history of Kiveton Park & Wales. This large section contains photos that have been generously donated to the History Society for inclusion on this website. They have be separated into the Photo Archive, People's Museum and Digital Archive.
Oral Histories were an important part of the 2007 History Project. During this time, many people from Kiveton & Wales were interviewed about their life and experience of the area. This section also contains some of the other audio clips collected during the project.

Description
This line ran a short distancewestward from the pit yard allowing the merry go round train to be loaded without uncoupling any of the wagons from the locomotive. Usually the destination for these trains was a power station.

Kiveton Pit's last steam shunting-engine, Waleswood Coking Unit was built in 1906 by the Hudswell Clarke company. This type of engine was described as an 0-4-0 saddle tank. For the engine builders purposes it's "Works number" was 750. This Unit was at Waleswood in October 1961 by April 1963 it had been sold to G Denton Esq. at Staveley it was still there in 1972. This engine was preserved for a time was at the Shackerstone Railway Society’s premises at Shackerstone, near Market Bosworth in a dismantled state. Seen here in Kiveton pit yard.

This stunning image was taken in Waleswood in the late 19th century. It shows proud Colliery officials wearing smart clothes, amidst a busy pit-top yard.
Note the pit-prop timbers laying around, the pit ponies, engine and wooden headgear.

Early Kiveton Park Colliery Headgear, c. 1880s
This image probably dates from the 1880s and is of the pit-top at Kiveton Park Colliery. A stunning picture of a colliery which was expanding and prospering, a variety of men and boys can be seen, with lamps and clothes of the day.
This image is also incredibly useful in the detail it shows of the pit headgear and associated buildings.
