Names beginning with A

Sapper John Edwin Ashton was the son of Henry and Nellie Ashton of Wales, and husband of Hilda Ashton, of Stoneygate, Leicester. His mother died when he was 11.  He served with the Royal Engineers, 1 Field Park Coy.  He was killed in action on 29th May 1940, aged 37 years, and buried at Veurne Communal Cemetery extension, Belgium.  He is remembered on the Wales Square memorial.


Sapper Samson Aldous Bn 1914. Known as Sam was cousin to the Wigmores.
