EVACUATION 1939 - 1945
A recent enquiry from a gentleman who was evacuated to Kiveton Park during the 1939-45 war prompted the members of the History Society to try and collect stories, memories and photographs etc from anyone else who was evacuated to this area or away from it during WW2.
As a result of the enquiry, we discovered admission registers, held at Rotherham Archives, for Kiveton Park Infants School for 1941, which details a whole group of children who were evacuated from Moulescoomb Council School, Brighton, Whitehawk Infants School, Brighton, one from Ditchley and one from Wanstead. There are also details of where they stayed and with whom. Later, in 1944, a smaller group is listed from the London area.
We know a number of evacuees attended Wales School, but at the moment we cannot locate the admission registers for Wales School (could anyone help us here?), though we do have a few individual names from Wales School Log Books of evacuees who passed scholarships whilst here and names of teachers who came from Brighton at various times. The teachers were: Miss M Singleton, Miss Bedworth, Miss Sylvia Deekes, Miss Gibbons, Hilda Percy and Miss Hemsworth.
Also it is noted in the log books that 7 children were admitted to Wales in August 1944 from the London area and Southern Counties.
We really would appreciate your stories, memories and photographs etc concerning evacuation.
